Give 10 tips for the grandparents for handling a 1 year old?

Grandparents are fun to be with. It doesn’t matter if we are 1 or 31. Although, it could be thought for them to handle us at different ages, especially when it comes to a 1-year-old. Children at this age are very insecure and used to be around their parents all the time. Taking care of them could be difficult for a grandparent, but here are a few tips for you.
1. Play with them:
Kids love people who play with them. If grandparents start playing with the child and their toys, they tend to build a bond with you. Do not stop them from playing all of a sudden. Give them breaks and get involved in their activities so as to let them be able to be involved in stuff you ask them to do.
And remember, you just don’t have to play with the toys they have, instead teach them something new. Why not play hide and seek? Or catch the ball, etc.

2. Give them small tasks to do:
When you are done playing, you can start doing your own stuff. The child will be interested to know what you are doing. Do not give them huge tasks because they are still small. Ask them to do things like, grab that fork or help fold napkins. They might not be able to do it right, but that’ll stay in their brain.
3. Read them stories:
Now putting a kid of 1 year old to sleep might be difficult but trust me, they love hearing stories. And as a grandparent, you could try saying them stories of their parents. Here again, they might not understand everything but will be able to relate to your expressions.
4. Use cartoon to feed:
A great way to be able to feed your grandchild without much trouble is to let him watch the cartoon. It will divert their attention and they would possibly eat what you are feeding them with. But do not make it a habit such that they do not eat without a cartoon.
5. Keep them away from water bodies:
Grandparents need to be aware of the child staying away from watery places. They may slip and get hurt or the water could be too deep for them. Keep them away from pools, toilets, wet flooring, bathtubs etc. And in a dry and safe place.
6. Keep the child lock on:
Now if in case you are needed to drive them to some other place them do not forget that their place is in the back seat and their baby seat. Keep that child lock-on and the windows up for them to not peep out and be safe. They might be excited to see things around, but you got to put them at a distance.

7. Be a teacher:
Children ageing from 1 to 3 years are always keen to know and learn about new things. Sing a poem to them or a rhyme. Show them different colours and what they are called. It’s okay if they do not pay a lot of attention now because eventually, they will.
8. Show affection:
As a grandparent, handling the child would be easier if they know you love them. Keep reminding them how important they are to you and how much fun it is to spend time with them. Give them hugs and kisses. But also, there might be times when they could become aggressive; do not physically punish them. Be calm. Use hug therapy.
9. Keep your medications away:
You may always have an eye on your grandchild but there are be moments you look away for a second while you use the washroom or talk over the phone or anything. For such circumstances keep everything safe. And most important is to keep Your medicines away from the reach of the child.
10. Keep yourself updated:
As a grandparent, you need to understand that handling your grandchild is not exactly same as you did to your children. The time has changed. Kids grow and learn faster today. So, to handle them the best, you need to educate yourself about stuff like what to feed, the scientific studies showing that infants sleep more safely on their back and sides and other such stuff.
However, kids learn a lot from their grandparents which they might not from their parents. Most importantly in today’s busy world, they learn the art of patience and being calm from their grandparent. So, remember, you have a major role to play.
